Character name: Lyra
Fandom: Pokemon (Games)
Timeline: After defeating Clair but before taking on the Elite Four
Age: 11
~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths: As a normal human being, Lyra herself has no special abilities. She does enjoy activity and the outdoors, so she's in shape and healthy. However, Lyra comes from a world where animal-like creatures known as Pokemon live and work alongside humans. As such, she will be bringing with her a team of six main Pokemon. Information on her team can be found here.
How would they use their abilities?: She would use her abilities to help others and fight against wrongdoers, as well as recreational Pokemon battles provided the Thor has healing facilities.
Appearance: Lyra isn't very tall, about 4'3", though she wears a large, poofy white hat with a red ribbon that adds about four inches to her height. She has brown eyes and hair groomed into a pair of low twintails that curl slightly forward and up over her shoulders. Her bangs are combed neatly to frame her face. Her frame is small, though fit, and is only just starting to show many curves. Her skin is fair and on the more peach-toned side. She wears a red shirt with three-quarter length sleeves and a white collar under a pair of blue overall shorts. Her white socks go up to her thighs, with black bands around the tops. Her feet are clad in a pair of red running shoes. She carries a large yellow shoulder bag virtually everywhere, where she keeps items and her Pokeballs.
Background/Personality:
Background: Lyra grew up in New Bark Town in the Johto region listening to tales of different Gym Leaders, Champions, and heroes. Whether it was through her comic books about superheroes or the town buzz, she was always hearing adventures of adventure, courage, and good triumphing over evil. Eventually, she heard about one hero only three years older than herself stopping a criminal organization all on his own, named Red. His story inspired her to become a Pokemon trainer herself. Three years later the local Pokemon expert, Professor Elm, called on Lyra to help him with his research as well as give her her first Pokemon. He wanted to study the effects of Pokemon traveling with trainers outside of their Pokeballs. On the way to the lab, she noticed a red-haired boy peeking in suspiciously, but when she tried to talk to him he rudely shoved her away. She went on to choose her starter, Totodile, and head to Mr. Pokemon's house for her errand.
After a short pit stop in Cherrygrove City to heal, Lyra found her way to Mr. Pokemon's house. There she received a strange egg, supposedly that of a Pokemon, to take back to New Bark Town. She also met Professor Oak there. Impressed with her handling of her Pokemon, he granted her a Pokedex, a sort of encyclopedia of Pokemon. Soon after, she received an emergency call from Professor Elm asking her to return immediately. On the way, she met the same red-haired boy from before. He challenged her to a Pokemon battle, which she subsequently won, and stormed off. However, she managed to get a good look at his trainer card first and learned that his name was Silver. Upon returning to the lab, Lyra learned that the Chikorita Silver had was stolen from professor Elm. After being questioned about him, she sets out to "blaze her own trail to the top".
She trained her way past Cherrygrove to Violet City, where the first gym awaited her. It was empty at the time, so she continued training by taking on Sprout Tower, a nearby shrine. At the top, she saw Silver battling the Elder, who told him he was not treating his Pokemon properly. Again, Silver storms off. Lyra then battled and defeated the tower Elder. She was then able to challenge the gym. She successfully defeated Falkner and earned the Zephyr Badge. Professor Elm then called her to meet with his aide. He gave her the Pokemon egg from before to hold onto. With that, she left town.
On the way south to Azalea Town, Lyra encountered a man who attempted to sell her a Slowpoketail for a million dollars. Having nowhere near that much to spend, she declined and continued. She battled her way through the Union Cave and emerged in Azalea Town. There she saw a man yelling at a black-clad man in front of a well. She The black-clad man denied her exploration of the well. Another man in black stopped her from entering the gym. She met the townsman from before, Kurt, who creates Pokeballs from fruit. He told her that Team Rocket had claimed the nearby Slowpoke Well to chop off the tails of the Slowpokes, which they then sold for large sums of money. Kurt asked for Lyra's help and together they rushed to the well. Kurt is injured and Lyra is is forced to fight her way through the well alone. At the end, she battles and defeats Proton, one of Team Rocket's four executives. Afterward, she was free to take on the gym. She battled and defeated Bugsy, earning the Hive Badge. Before she had the chance to leave town, Silver reappeared and challenged her to a battle. Once again, she defeated him.
After finding her way through the maze-like Ilex Forest and passing the Pokemon Daycare, Lyra arrived in Goldenrod City. She explored the many things to do in town, including the Department Store, Radio Tower, and the underground where she got a picture taken of her dressed like a Rocket grunt. She then sought out the gym. This was a difficult battle, but Lyra defeated Whitney like the other Gym Leaders. She received the Plain Badge only after waiting for Whitney to have a good cry. She then tried her hand at the Bug-catching Contest and Pokeathlon, enjoying both but preferring the latter. She battled the Sudowoodo blocking the path to the east of the National Park and continued her journey.
The next city she came to was Ecruteak, where she quickly met Bill, creator of the Pokemon storage system, and fought a Rocket grunt out of the dance hall. She entered the gym, but was not allowed to challenge it, so she visited the town's two towers first. She was not allowed very far into the Bell Tower, and the other tower had burned to the ground a hundred and fifty years prior. While exploring the Burned Tower, Lyra met two men, introduced as Eusine and Morty, and spotted three magnificent Pokemon in the room below. She also met Silver, who, again, challenged and lost to her. She descended to the basement, where she met the three legendary beasts: Raikou, Entei, and Suicune. Morty returned to his gym, where Lyra defeated him and earned the Fog Badge.
West of Ecruteak, Lyra helped a farmer nurse a sick Miltank back to health before entering Olivine City. Silver emerged from the gym complaining that the Gym Leader was tending a sick Pokemon in the lighthouse rather than accepting challenges. She climbed to the top of the lighthouse, where she was asked to travel across the sea to Cianwood Island to retrieve medicine for the poor Pokemon. She surfed to the island town, where she was able to pick up the medicine. She met Suicune a second time, as well as Eusine, whom she battled and defeated. While in Cianwood, Lyra also took on the local gym. Defeating Chuck earned her the Storm Badge.
After investigating a nearby cave, Lyra returned to Olivine to deliver the medicine. With the lighthouse's Ampharos cured, Jasmine returned to her gym and allowed Lyra to battle her. Lyra won and received the Mineral Badge. After that, she backtracked, passing through Ecruteak again. Suicune was waiting for her again, but left promptly. Eusine also made an appearance.
She arrived in Mahogany Town before long, but was allowed neither entrance into the gym nor exploration further to the east. She instead traveled North, toward the Lake of Rage. She tried going through the gate, but refused to pay the 1000 Pokedollar fine. However, that incident told her Team Rocket was up to something at the lake. She cut around to the lake using a different path. At the lake, every eye was drawn to a Gyarados of an unusual color - a striking bright red. Lyra surfed to the Gyarados and captured it to calm it down. Upon returning to the shore, Lyra met Lance, the Champion of the Pokemon League. He explained to her that the red Gyarados was Team Rocket's doing, as a result of forcing it to evolve. They planned on doing the same to the rest of the Magikarp in the lake.
In order to stop this cruelty, Lance and Lyra returned to Mahogany Town. Lance outed the shop as a cover for a Rocket base, from which the evolution waves that caused the red Gyarados to evolve were being transmitted. Lyra battles her way through the base, with Lance's help. After winning a pair of passwords to the final rooms of the base, suddenly Silver makes an appearance. Lance had told him he didn't treat his Pokemon properly, and he ponders this before expressing a strong dislike for Team Rocket and leaving. Lyra then battled and defeated another of Team Rocket's executives, Petrel. A nearby Murkrow led her to the generator, but before she and Lance could do anything, they were attacked by a third executive, Ariana, and a grunt. Following their victory in a double battle, they took out the Electrode that were powering the generator. With that, Team Rocket was thwarted, and Lyra was free to challenge Pryce's gym for the Glacier Badge. She won handily before receiving an urgent call from Professor Elm. Team Rocket had taken over the radio broadcasts from the Goldenrod City Radio Tower.
Lyra quickly returned to Goldenrod. Team Rocket had blocked off many buildings in the city, and she was unable to get very far into the Radio Tower. She remembered the photo booth from before and went to the underground to get a grunt disguise. With the borrowed uniform, the grunt preventing her from going upstairs in the Radio Tower stepped aside. At that moment, however, Silver showed up and blew Lyra's cover. She was forced to battle the grunt, who ran ahead to inform the other Rockets. Silver left and Lyra was forced to take on the tower alone. She fought grunts on each floor, eventually reaching the top level, where Petrel was waiting for her disguised as the Director of the Radio Tower. She defeated him, and he handed over a key to a door in the underground.
After unlocking the door, Silver reappeared. He challenged Lyra, and once again she defeated him. She solved a switch puzzle in the underground, leading her to a room beneath the basement of the Department Store. The real Director was held there. She freed him and he handed over a card key which would open a locked door on the third floor of the Radio Tower. She quickly headed back to the third floor of the tower to unlock the door. On the next floor, Proton was waiting for her. She defeated him and continued on, fighting Ariana on the floor above. These two battles in a row were grueling, but she finally reached the top floor of the tower, where the fourth and final executive, Archer, waited. He explained Team Rocket's purpose in Goldenrod - they were trying to reach their former boss, Giovanni, who had disappeared three years before.
She battled Archer. It wasn't her most difficult battle, but it was one of her most trying with the two other executives immediately before. Team Rocket's victory would mean widespread suffering for Pokemon and people. She was more than relieved when she managed to win against Archer, and even more so when he disbanded Team Rocket on the spot. Team Rocket fled the city, presumably for good.
Lyra had defeated Team Rocket, but her journey wasn't over. She returned to Mahogany Town, and was finally allowed passage to the east. She traversed the Ice Path, sliding her way into Blackthorn City, where the eighth gym awaited her challenge. After a rough battle with Clair, she won. Clair refused to acknowledge Lyra's skill as a trainer by giving her the Rising Badge, however, and sent her into a cave known as the Dragon's Den to complete another task. Clair wanted her to retrieve an item called the Dragon Fang and pass the test given by the Master of the Dragon Clan, which Clair herself had not yet passed. Lyra found the Dragon Fang, passed the test, and received her prize at last. Professor Elm then called, congratulating her and asking her to return to New Bark Town. She returned home by hiking down the mountainside, and was congratulated again, given the Masterball which could catch any Pokemon without fail, and told to pay a visit to the dance hall in Ecruteak. There, she battled the five Kimono Girls she had met scattered around her journey. She then simply trained for the Elite Trainers waiting at Indigo Plateau.
Personality: Lyra grew up surrounded by stories of heroes and good triumphing over evil. She has gained a great respect for those who go out of their way to help others, as well as a strong sense of justice. She also craves the same sort of admiration she gives her heroes, leading to her own desire to be a hero. However, she also rather naively divides the world into good and bad, black and white, hero and villain. This can lead to poor judgment at times, as well as reckless and thoughtless behavior, including a tendency to bite off more than she can chew.
She's very energetic and enthusiastic. She's also extremely vocal about treating others properly, with care and respect, after seeing how Silver treated his Pokemon. She generally thinks the best of everyone, though, sometimes to exaggerated degrees. Lyra believes anyone can be a hero with enough determination, so she encourages trying one's hardest and helping others with or without reward. She can be very forgiving of flaws in judgment, though, and is easily misled.
If one of the people Lyra believes is a hero lets her down somehow, she will hold a grudge. She'll demand to know the cause the next chance she gets, and seek to dominate to prove that she is better or can be a better hero. As easy as it is to become a hero in her eyes, she is a much harsher judge of herself, often failing to realize her own heroic actions for what they're worth. She can be overly critical of her own failures. She is still a child, after all, and still has some growing up to do.

[The feed starts, showing a somewhat frustrated face. The expression quickly changes to a smile.]
Oh, so that's how I get it to go-- Okay, this is pretty cool! So um... Hi! I'm Lyra... This is a spaceship, right? So this place is a bunch of people all having adventures in space? I'm so excited! [To lyra, this sounds like exactly the sort of thing that might happen to a hero. So many origin stories in her comic books involved planets being destroyed. Maybe she'll get to be a hero for someone out here!]
I have something I want to ask, though. Is there a Pokemon Center anywhere onboard? I've looked around a bit and couldn't find one. They're sort of like hospitals, but not for people, if you don't know them. [She only has limited supplies, but a Pokemon Center would fix those worries...] And! If anyone has seen any other trainers around, could you tell me? Oh, hold on-- [There's a short pause and sounds of shifting fabric as Lyra digs in her bag. It isn't long before she returns her focus to the feed, holding a ball that is half red and half white, with a white button on it.] A trainer will have a few of these with them! Thanks! [Her eyes close as an excited grin spreads across her face. Having some of her heroes around would make this so much better.]
This is going to be so fun! [She isn't thinking about why she's here. It's just a little too much for her right now... To think of her home, and her family and friends as gone.]
3rd person sample:
Where? Where was everyone? Lyra has other things to think about, yet still her mind is dominated by one fact. She's in the Goldenrod City Radio Tower, surrounded by enemies, and she's all alone. Lance, a man she had looked up to all her life, wasn't there. Ethan, who she'd grown up with and come to treat like family, wasn't there. Silver, who had claimed to hate Team Rocket, wasn't there. The gym leaders, upholders of justice in their towns, weren't there.
Alone. Where was everyone? Where were all her heroes? Team Rocket was known to be evil, and they weren't exactly being subtle. Lance had been there, had helped her, when Team Rocket had been experimenting on Pokemon in Mahogany Town, and yet now... Now she was alone. Did he not care that they might return to power? For all she knows, they could include mind control waves or something with the radio. Maybe he was one of them. No, that couldn't be. Lance was a hero! But then... It would explain why he wasn't there to keep them from rising to power again Wait, that wouldn't explain why he helped stop their experimenting... It's all so confusing. Lyra's head hurts trying to think about it. He's supposed to be a hero. He's supposed to help others. That's what heroes do.
If someone fails to help everyone, are they still a hero? Lyra can't figure it out. Her battle skills are faltering a bit, she knows she's focusing too much on this, but still... This is a matter of good and bad. Hero and villain. Acceptance is assistance. By not fighting, Lance is allowing Team Rocket to continue what they're doing. That would make him a villain. But he's the Champion, so he has to be a hero. He has to be both, but that's impossible! No one can be both good and bad. She's the only one here, so she'll have to do this.
She had to defeat them. Fighting off grunt after grunt, she climbs the tower. If they win, it's over. If they win, everything the legendary trainer of Mt. Silver fought for years ago will be in vain. So she has to win. As Lyra ascends to the top floor, a thought occurs to her. Perhaps this is her time to shine. Maybe she already has blazed her trail to the top, and this is just the final hurdle. She can't give up. Not if she wants to be a hero. Lance can wait, safe and sound, in Indigo Plateau. Lyra will come for him. When she does, she'll make sure to learn the truth. When she does, she'll finally get to know what he is. She'll do what he won't for now, be the person everyone needs... And then she'll go find out why Lance wasn't.
